MIA Estates & Facilities requirements
MIA helps healthcare providers manage and monitor who is visiting their sites. It ensures that all company representatives — including contractors, engineers, and support staff — have the right credentials to safely access NHS hospitals and other healthcare locations.
If you work in Estates & Facilities, such as building maintenance, engineering, cleaning, catering, or logistics, and you visit NHS sites, you must be MIA compliant. This is a mandatory requirement for all healthcare providers using MIA, including most NHS Trusts.
- You will be assigned all relevant training courses.
- Be ready to provide evidence of relevant training and qualifications.
Your MIA Membership includes access to the online training courses required to meet NHS standards. Depending on your role, you may also need to submit:
- A valid DBS certificate
- Credentials relevant to your work
Once approved, you’ll receive a MIA Estates & Facilities ID card, which must be used to register every visit to a participating healthcare provider.

DBS - the majority of hospitals are now asking for a Standard DBS, but there are a few that require an Enhanced DBS, particularly if they are paediatric specialist hospitals. If you are unsure which DBS to obtain, please feel free to contact our Customer Service Team on help@miaweb.co.uk.
