Theatre Access Basic Course (Gold)

This course is designed to provide information for medical device company representatives in order to reduce risk to yourself, the patient and other members of the surgical team. It sets out to give information for this high-risk environment, the operating room and other areas of the hospital where interventional procedures take place, so that you can safely perform your role.  

Learning Outcomes

This course will help you to: 

  • Recognise the importance of minimising risk to the patient whilst you are present in the operating room.
  • Identify health and safety issues in the area relative to your own safety.
  • Identify specific measures relating surgery after the pandemic
  • Recognise your role in protecting the patients’ confidential information.
  • Identify correct theatre clothing, and personal protective equipment specific to areas of the operating department.
  • Describe the importance of infection prevention and control in relation to operating room practice.
  • Understand the surgical team structure and their roles.
  • Set up and manage equipment trials effectively. 

Operating room best practice is based on the Association for Perioperative Practice’s Standards and Recommendations for Safe Perioperative Practice 2022.
